WHO WE ARE Please let us introduce ourselves.
JOY Sierra Leone
In 2006, Ibrahim Sannah, Abdul Kamara and Samuel Tucker, three determined friends from the Lakka and Oogo Farm communities, came together to form Joint Operation Youths (JOY). By growing up in Sierra Leone and being young fathers, they know and value the importance of quality education like no other. Sierra Leone is a country that faces many challenges for its people. Basic services such as reliable water, healthcare, employment and education are extremely limited. However, the people of Sierra Leone envision a more prosperous country where their dreams can become a reality. JOY aims to provide youth with basic life skills, so that they have the tools and knowledge to work towards achieving those dreams.
In June 2009 our friend and colleague Adbul Kamara passed away at the age of 32. We miss him and thank him for all that he has done throughout the years.

JOY the Netherlands
Early 2006, Daan Veldhuizen a Dutch film student, visited Sierra Leone for an internship at the Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA) based in Lakka. Out of interest, his mother Isolde Veldhuizen, who is a Primary teacher for over 25 years, asked him if he could investigate the local educational system. When Daan went out to do so, he met the members of JOY and they became friends. Since then, Daan and Isolde have been actively supporting projects that are initiated by the Joint Operation Youths and they return to Sierra Leone annually. Together with the help of a growing number of volunteers, their aim is to support this great local initiative through fund and awareness raising in every possible manner.
